Once you’ve got all of your supplies for your baby animal baby shower, then it’s time to consider foods. Tomorrow we’ll have information about cakes, but today we’ll take a look at party food. Most foods can be connected to animals if you just put a sign next to it, for instance a vegetable tray is rabbit food, there are also many foods with animals in the name, to help make sure people know the tie in, put a fun little sign next to the food with the snack name, or post a menu. Here are some of our favorite ideas:
Monkey Bread
Animal Crackers
Goldfish Crackers
Tiger Toast
Monkey Munch (or Puppy Chow)
Hippo Muddy Puddles = made from brownies cut into circles topped with hot fudge. For a special touch, add a marzipan animal to each (found at specialty and gourmet stores).
Use animal-shaped cookie cutters to cut fun shapes from cheese and lunchmeat for a fun twist on a cheese tray
Marvelous Monkey’s Choc Banana = Make a “banana pop” for each guest. Insert a Popsicle stick into the bottom of a halved banana. Pour chocolate syrup over the banana until it is completely covered. Roll the chocolate-covered banana in a thin layer of nuts. Freeze 4-6 hours before serving.
Toucan Treats: Hornbill Hoopla = 6 cups Fruit Loops, 1 package (10 ounces) marshmallows, and 3 tablespoons margarine
Melt margarine in a large saucepan on low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until they’re completely melted. Remove from the heat and add the Fruit Loops. Stir until well coated. Using a buttered spatula or wax paper, press mixture evenly into a 13″x 9″x 2″ pan coated with cooking spray. Cut into Hornbill Hoopla squares for a colorful snack!

Party Favors:
When choosing a party favor for you baby animals baby shower, there are a few things you’ll want to take into account, besides just the theme. Remember the party favors are for the guests, so choose something that they can use, rather than something “baby”, if your intent is that they will leave it for the mom to give to baby, then it is not really a party favor. Next, consider whether you want a personalized favor or would rather stick with a standard gift that is not personalized for the event. Finally, choose whether you want to have all of the animals featured, or just one. Below are a few of our favorite baby shower favors for this theme.
Baby Animal Tea (also available in coffee, lemonade, cocoa, capuccino, and cocktail mixes)
 Safari Animal Candy Bar Wrappers
 Baby Lion Sachets
 Monkey Baby Shower Favor Cookies
Zebra Baby Food Jar Candles (available in other animals also)
Once you’ve decided on your party favors, it’s time to start thinking about decorations. Here are some decorating suggestions:
- Consider a diaper cake or other decorative baby gift to use a centerpiece. Not only will it make a great decoration, but it can double as your gift also.
 Jungle Baby Shower Cake
- Use small stuffed animals to tie balloons to. The animals will act as balloon weights and will also enhance the party theme
- Hang a baby shower banner featuring baby animals up to congratulate the new mom.
 Baby Animals Baby Shower Banner
- Hang stuffed animals from a clothesline or scatter around the room
- Play jungle noises or songs about animals
- Use animals made from diapers to decorate the room
Still to come: ideas for games, food, cake, and gifts.

Throwing a shower for triplets, quads, quintuplets, or sextuplets certainly has it’s share of challenges, but finding a fun theme doesn’t have to be hard. Virtually any theme will work for multiples, just multiply the number of items you use (3 teddy bears instead of 1, 4 baby animals, etc). Here are a few of our favorite themes for higher order multiple baby showers.
Three Peas In A Pod (or Four, Five, etc)
Baby Carriages, Multiples
Baby Animals, Zoo, Safari, or Jungle (since these often have more than one animal on them, it is a great way to work around the lack of tableware and supplies available for higher order multiples.

Although most people generally avoid throwing baby showers during the holidays, there are times when having a holiday shower makes the most sense. The main reason that people opt for the holiday shower, is to accomodate visiting relatives. If the expectant mom’s family (or in-laws) are already flying in for the holidays, and won’t be able to make it back for a shower, then having a holiday shower can be the perfect solution. If you are having a holiday shower, there are a few things you should consider.
First, will your shower be holiday themed, or just take place during the holiday season? Will you use a regular baby shower theme such as nursery rhymes or baby footprints, or will you use the holiday itself as the theme?
Second, when will the shower be? Remember the closer it is to the actual holiday it is, the harder it will be for people to attend.
Now that you’ve decided on the basics, be sure to get your baby shower invitations out extra early, that way those who want to attend can be sure to make plans appropriately. While it is generally considered proper to send invitatons 2 weeks to a month before a shower, you should send them 1 to 2 months beforehand if you are having a holiday baby shower.
Tomorrow we’ll have some tips for planning your shower.

In our baby shower planning guide, we walk you through all of the steps to planning a baby shower, but if you just need a quick reference timeline, we think this will help:
Set the event date (at least 6 weeks prior to event)
Order your baby shower invitations (4-5 weeks prior to event) – Regardless of whether you are purchasing pre-printed or fill-in invitations, you’ll want to order them now. Fill-ins will come faster, but you’ll need time to get them filled in. Pre-printed come all ready to go except for the addresses on the envelope, but will need take a bit longer to get as they’ll need to be printed before you get them. If you are ordering for a large party, order invitations 5-6 weeks before the event to give yourself enough time to get them addressed. Although they offer a cost savings, we don’t recommend fill-in invitations for large parties unless you have a lot of helpers to help fill them in.
Send out baby shower invitations (2-3 weeks prior to event, or if you need the RSVPs early, send out at least 1 1/2 weeks before you need the RSVP.)
Order your cake and any prepared foods (1-2 weeks prior to event day)
Make sure you have everything ready for your event, all of your supplies in order and are set to go (2-3 days before event).
Prepare all of your supplies, hang decorations that can go up early, prepare any food that can be done in advance. (night before event)
Day of event – try not to stress and have a great day.
